RELEVANT PROVISIONS	Sets rules for protecting and developing the state of the environment in Syria and entrusts the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs with these tasks. Establishes the Supreme Environmental Protection Council. This Law makes provisions for criminal liability to be imposed on individuals whose actions prove detrimental to the environment. Certain tax benefits apply to importers of environmentally-friendly materials and equipment.
RELATED LEGISLATION	Repeals the previous Environmental Law 50/2002.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT	This Law was enacted against the backdrop of internal conflict in Syria but which the government nevertheless promoted in order to raise environmental awareness.
